Whiskey and Sushi

Originally created to chronicle the excessive consumption and spending that would occur while conquering the 2010 Big Eat SF, now also dedicated to food adventures and cooking with my psychotic but very lovely friends.

With some boozing in between too, obviously.

I worked at a sushi restaurant in SLO during college and in my unbiased opinion (hah), it was one of the better ones in town. Goshi’s, however, was always considered the best sushi bar no matter how hard we tried. It’s well deserved- the chefs are always so nice, the fish is fresh and they have unique items like barbecued baby octopus and real wasabi (frightening stuff). Sadly in college I was always too poor to go, since it was also the most expensive sushi restaurant in town, Now that I’m in the working world, it seems less daunting to my wallet. I went last time with Shaun and we got this boat! Everything on it was so delicious. It was so much food though that we could barely eat the free ice cream they gave us later.

My friends and I have been hitting up almost every chain restaurant happy hour for the last few months and we have discovered that Cheesecake Factory is definitely the best one for food. The drinks are ok (five dollar select cocktails and beers) and the hours are shorter than we’d like (4-6) but the food selection is so big! It includes all appetizers and small plates, so there are probably 30+ options. I got the avocado egg rolls and Vietnamese tacos. The avocado egg rolls are an old favorite of mine, but the Vietnamese tacos were surprisingly good and filling. It’s sort of a Momofuku style bun with meat and pickled veggies. I’m craving more now.

I’ve been so busy lately that blogging hasn’t been on my mind :( in fact, I only now remembered to do it because I am super bored at the airport in San Diego and am trying to amuse myself. Constant traveling and work has kinda burned out my creative juices and I find myself desiring only to flop around on the couch in front of the television in the evenings.

On the bright side, constant traveling means lots of delicious food- Manna Korean BBQ has been a favorite of mine and Shaun’s when I am in San Diego. Unlimited meat and kimchi! Shaun loves the steak but I’m a fan of the galbi. Having to watch it sizzle in front of you for ten minutes while starving is pure torture though :(

And I always end up passing out in a food induced coma afterwards. In reality, this place is a horrible idea when we are trying to be healthier but it always sounds so good when I’m hungry. Like right now. It’s 8am but I could totally go for five pounds of sizzling cow for breakfast.

Delicious bulgogi with spicy sauce from the HIYAAA truck at the Treasure Island Flea Market! We originally wanted to get garlic noodles but the other truck ran out two people in front of us! I’ll have to hunt it down again. This was pretty delicious though, so no hard feelings :D

Salmon with soy-maple-mustard glaze-I just mixed the wet stuff together in a bowl, poured it over the salmon, and popped it in the oven for 20 minutes!
Been doing a lot of this type of thing lately-I haven’t had time to cook after getting off work at 5:30 or 6 :(
